What is MP3 to text?

MP3 to text is the process of turning an audio recording into a written transcript. It is useful for podcasts, lectures, interviews, voice notes and meeting recordings. The converter listens to the speech in your file and returns readable text that you can search, quote or turn into subtitles.

How to convert MP3 to text

  1. Upload your MP3. Choose a file from your device. MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG, FLAC and WebM are supported, up to 4 MB.
  2. Choose the spoken language. Pick the language used in the recording, or leave it on Auto-detect.
  3. Copy or download. Read the transcript, copy it, or download an SRT file with timestamps when available.

MP3 to text vs audio to text vs speech to text

People use these phrases in slightly different ways. MP3 to text usually means turning a recorded audio file into a document. Audio to text is the broader term for any audio format. Speech to text often refers to live dictation, where you speak and the words appear immediately. This page focuses on recorded files.

Accuracy, languages and limits

How accurate is the transcript?

Accuracy depends on audio quality, background noise, accents and the number of speakers. Clear speech with little noise produces the best results. Always review names, numbers and technical terms before publishing.

Which languages are supported?

Common languages include English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Hindi, Indonesian, Russian and Arabic. Auto-detect works well for single-language recordings.

Why is there a 4 MB and 3-per-day limit?

Transcription uses a paid speech model. The limits keep the free tool available to everyone and prevent abuse. A 4 MB MP3 is roughly 10 minutes at a low bitrate; compress longer recordings before uploading.

Frequently asked questions

Is MP3 to text free?

Yes. Converting an audio file to text is free and does not require an account. Each visitor can convert up to three files per day, with a 4 MB limit per file.

Is my audio file stored?

No. Your file is sent to our transcription provider only to produce the transcript, and we do not store the audio or the transcript on our servers.

Can I download the transcript as an SRT file?

Yes. When timestamps are available, the result includes a Download .srt button so you can use the transcript as subtitles.

Why did my upload fail?

The most common reasons are a file larger than 4 MB, an unsupported format, or reaching the daily limit of three conversions per visitor. Compress the audio or try again the next day.
